Our advice

Hesitating? Start with the Classic formula. It is the most versatile and widely used option
in professional stables. Switch to Eucalyptus if you want to bring extra freshness to your stall,
especially during summer or in confined spaces.

Both formulas are compatible—you can test them over a complete rotation before making a decision.

How to use Aubiose hemp bedding? User guide

Initial setup

For a standard 9 m² stall (3×3 m), plan for 6 to 8 bales of 20kg for the initial setup.
Spread to a depth of 20 to 25 cm. The bedding settles slightly as it absorbs ambient moisture—
this is normal and expected.

Daily maintenance

Remove droppings and wet areas (the “crusts”) daily using a bedding fork.
Bring dry bedding back towards the center. A weekly top-up of ½ or 1 bale can be scheduled depending on the horse.
The rest is preserved, which is the principle of “crusting” that makes hemp economical.

Complete bedding replacement

With Aubiose, total stripping of the stall is not necessary—that is the main advantage of the product.
For those who prefer to do so, it is of course possible, but in that case we recommend a complete
replacement every 6 months.

An economical horse bedding: calculation over 6 months

The price per kilo of hemp bedding is higher than straw, that is a fact. But the real cost
of a bedding is not calculated per kilo: it is calculated based on duration of use, volume consumed,
and indirect savings generated.

With Aubiose bedding, you remove less material at each cleaning, renew the overall bed less often,
and produce less manure to dispose of. Over 6 months, owners who have made the comparison
notice an overall cost comparable to, or even lower than, straw, with the added bonus of a healthier stall.

Enhanced absorption for a dry stable

The hemp base of this bedding retains the same absorption capacity as the classic Aubiose range, absorbing up to 4 times its volume. Adding eucalyptus does not affect this performance: it enhances the experience rather than replacing it.

Eucalyptus, for a fresher stable environment

Eucalyptus is known for its fresh, cleansing fragrance. Combined with hemp, it helps create a more pleasant atmosphere in the stable, both for the horse and the person caring for it.

Low-dust bedding for horses with sensitive airways

Like the entire Aubiose range, this bedding is mechanically dust-extracted three times, resulting in a dust level of less than 0.1%. This is important for comfort in the stable, particularly for horses whose airways require extra care.

How to use eucalyptus bedding every day

Spread the bedding evenly across the entire stable, ensuring a sufficient depth to absorb urine and provide cushioning in resting areas. Remove soiled areas daily.

Storage

Store in a cool place away from light. Once opened, preferably use within 3 months. Do not freeze.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hemp Oil for Horses

Does Aubiose hemp oil contain CBD?

No, only trace amounts (<0.01%). Our oil is extracted from hemp seeds — the seeds of the hemp plant — rather than from the flowers or leaves. It is a conventional food-grade oil, rich in essential fatty acids, with no psychoactive effects or pharmacological properties.

Is hemp oil permitted in equestrian competition?

Cold-pressed hemp seed oil does not contain any prohibited substances regulated by equestrian federations (FEI, FFE). The THC content is below the analytical detection threshold. However, we recommend checking with your federation before use during competition periods, as regulations may change.

How long does it take to see the effects?

The effects of a food supplement containing essential fatty acids are generally seen over the medium term: the first signs may appear after 3 to 6 weeks (coat condition, recovery), with effects on overall balance developing over 2 to 3 months. This is not an immediate-action product — it is intended to form part of a long-term nutritional approach.

Can hemp oil be combined with other supplements?

Yes, in most cases. Aubiose hemp oil is a lipid-based food supplement and can easily be incorporated into a ration that already contains other supplements. If you have any concerns about interactions with ongoing veterinary treatment or specific supplements, consult your vet or an equine nutritionist.

My horse is a fussy eater — will they accept hemp oil?

Hemp seed oil has a slightly nutty flavour that is generally well accepted by horses. If your horse is initially reluctant, introduce it gradually by adding a few millilitres to their ration during the first few days, then increase the amount over 1 to 2 weeks. You can also mix it with a palatable feed, such as mash or muesli, to make it easier to accept.

Cost-effective bedding in the long term

The purchase price is only part of the true cost of bedding. What really affects a stable’s budget is how often the bedding needs to be changed and how much material is used during each muck-out. Thanks to its high absorption capacity, absorbing up to 4 times its volume, Aubiose hemp bedding reduces the need for complete bedding changes, helping to reduce overall consumption over time.

Low-dust bedding for your horse’s respiratory comfort

Horses have sensitive airways, particularly when stabled, where they spend a large part of their day. Aubiose bedding is mechanically dust-extracted three times, resulting in a dust level of less than 0.1%. This is important for everyday comfort, alongside good stable ventilation.

100% natural, GMO- and pesticide-free

Aubiose hemp is grown in France without irrigation, pesticides or GMOs by the La Chanvrière cooperative. Healthy bedding for your horse, and easier to put to further use through composting or spreading for stables that manage their own manure.

How to use hemp bedding in the stable

Spread the bedding across the entire stable floor, ensuring sufficient depth to properly absorb urine and provide cushioning in resting areas. Remove soiled areas and droppings daily, and top up as needed.
